The "Postal Hinge" is designed to help protect your mailbox from damage occurring from snowplows, farm equipment and vandals by swinging away as it is hit.
The “Postal Hinge is a pivoting device that allows a mailbox to swing out of the way when impacted by a lateral force, such as a snowplow, and returns to its original position when the cause of the impact has passed. When a snowplow or implement begins to hit your mailbox, the Postal hinge will move your mailbox up and out of the way, lessening the impact. After the impact the mail box will return to rest back at its home position.

When a snowplow or implement begins to hit your mailbox, the Postal Hinge will swing the mailbox up and out of the way lessening the impact. After the impact the mailbox returns to rest back at its home position. In the proper position for the mailman to deliver you mail. The Postal Hinge allows snowplow drivers to plow right up next to the mailbox post. This action cleans the snow from below and in front of the mailbox. No shoveling...no resetting.  If you have a nervous snowplow driver you can pull out the one pin and completely remove the mailbox and arm leaving only the post to stand there while the plow passes. By doing this, you will get the snow pushed back from below and in front of the mailbox. No shoveling...no damage for sure...

Swing Pivoting, moveable, gravity self centering mailbox hinge, pivots both ways. Condition is New.
It took me a long time to perfect this simple hinge for mailboxes. This hinge allows the mailbox on the arm to swing out of the way for the snowplows to pass by without damage. If the plow is going at a high speed the mail box  more than likely might suffer damage as would anything. But, if simply bumped and pushed by the snow it should survive many winters.
What is included is the two metal brackets that are powder coated white or green, the one stainless steel hinge pin, and a pivot washer.
The photos show how lag bolts, carriage bolts, and muffler clamps can be used to assemble the hinge parts to different post materials. These fasteners are not included.
You will receive either a white or green set of brackets.
This is made in Minnesota and has been tested for more than ten years.
You will see in my photos how a 2 X 4 is placed in front of the mail box, at a 90 degree angle to act as a bumper for the plow blade as a added step of protection for the mail box. If wanted the arm could be tied back to pull the box out of the way or pull the hinge pin and remove the arm completely.
